Windrose - Maggie May

[Refrão]

E A E
Oh, Maggie, Maggie May, they've taken you away
E A
To slave upon Van Diemen's cruel shore
          E Em A
Oh you robbed so many whalers, and many drunken sailors
                              A E
But you'll never cruise 'round Liverpool no more

[Verso 1]

E E
Now come here all you sailors bold, and listen to me tale
E
I know you all will sadly pity me
      E Em A
For I was a ruddy fool in the port of Liverpool
     E E
On a voyage when I first made off from sea

[Pré-Refrão]

      A E
I was paid off at the Home, from a voyage from Sierra Leone

Two pounds ten a month had been my pay
E Em A
As I jingled in me tin, I was sadly taken in
                                E
By a lady of the name of Maggie May

E A E
Oh, Maggie, Maggie May, they've taken you away

[Verso 2]

E E
When I steered into her, no I hadn't got a care
      E
I was cruising up and down old Canning Place
          E Em A
She was dressed in a gown so fine, like a frigate on the line
    E E
And I, being just sailor-man, gave chase

[Pré-Refrão]

         A E
Oh next morn' when I woke, and I found that I was broke
E
I had'nt got a penny I could find
     E Em A
So I had to pawn me suit, me John-Ls and me boots
E E
Down in the Park Lane pawnshop number nine

[Verso 3]

E E
Oh you thievin' Maggie May, you robbed me of me pay
E
When I slept with you last night ashore
          E Em A
Oh it's guilty the jury found her, of robbin' of a homeward bounder
    E E
And she'll never roll down Paradise Street no more

[Pré-Refrão]

         A E
She was chained and sent away from Liverpool one day
E
The lads all cheered as she sailed down the bay
     E Em A
And every sailor lad, he only was too glad
E E
That they'd sent the old whore out to Botany Bay
