[Verso 1]

F Bb
When first I went to soldier with, rifle on my shoulder
F G C
There wasn't no one bolderinthe corps, boys,oh
Bb F Bb
And when I walked abroad, allthe pretty girls, they'd wink at me
F C F
The ladies can't resist a jolly soldier

There's no Whiskey or Champagne
       F C F C
Still, we'll keep our spirits going with a song, boys

[Verso 2]

F Bb
Now, when we got the route, and for India, we set out
F G C
The girls were crying round us to the docks, boys, oh
      Bb F Bb
So we gave three hearty cheers, for the pretty little dears
F C F
In the hopes that each one got another soldier

F Bb
Then we marched through Khalasan and we met the wild Afghan
F G C
And made him at Karazia for to run boys, oh
       Bb F Bb C
And we marched into Kabul, and we took the Bala Hisar
F C F
And we made them respect the British soldier

F Bb
And now I'll say goodbye, for I'm feeling rather dry
F G C

So here's good to luck all and promotion soon, and better money
F C F
That's the sort of ticket for a soldier
