Sunday morning the frost lay white on the fence posts down the line
                             E A
Mama's bible beneath my arm, boot heels keeping time
                                                 D A
Smoke rose slow from the neighbour's stove, cold wind through the pines
                                            E A
And the Lord was in the robin's song long before the church bells chimed

[Refrão]

A E
Down the church road, Lord, I walked alone,
        D A A
Morning sun coming through the cold
                                              E A A
And every field and creek I crossed felt like heaven calling me home
                                      E
Read the word and praise sincere, the shepherd's voice grows mighty clear
        D D N.C.
For the Lord ain't bound to brick and stone....
           A E A
He walks beside us down that old church road

[Verso 2]

A
Old man Carter tipped his hat, driving cattle through the mist
                                            E A
Said, Morning, child and I recall there's grace in simple things like this
                               D A
Train whistle crying far away, rolling through the hills
                                    E A
And I felt God in the waking earth, quiet, strong and still

[Refrão]

A E
Down the church road, Lord, I walked alone,
        D A A
Morning sun coming through the cold
                                              E A A
And every field and creek I crossed felt like heaven calling me home
                                      E
Read the word and praise sincere, the shepherd's voice grows mighty clear
        D D N.C.
For the Lord ain't bound to brick and stone....
           A E A
He walks beside us down that old church road

[Ponte]

       D A
Then I heard those old hymns singing, flowing through the trees
E A
Voices joined like rushing waters, carried on the breeze
      D A
And I knew the house was holy not because of painted glass
      Bm D A
But because the hearts inside it loved the Lord.... they gathered for at last

[Refrão]

A E
Down the church road, now I ain't alone
       D A
Voices rising strong and warm
                                        E A A
And every soul and every song felt like heaven coming home
                                  E
Read the word and praise sincere, hold the ones beside you near
        D A E A
For the Lord walked with me all alooong.....down that old church..... road

(Spoken) God is with you always, by your side and in His word
                                     E A A
You only need to open your heart and eyes to find him
