The Narrow Trail

G C G
I am a cowboy with a new direction
C G Dm
Makin' my way up a narrow trail
                G C G
I've dodged the rock slides climbed out of canyons
      C G D7 G
Where careless riders falter and fail

                                C G
I rode the wide trail where the herd had traveled
          C G Dm
Where the grass was lush green and stirrup high
        G C G
But the wide trail leads to a sunbaked desert
          C G D7 G
Where the heat will scorch you and the river's dry

D7 G
Someday I'll hear the trail boss callin'
             C Dm
Hitch my old pony to the gatepost rail
            C G
And I'll be part of that last great roundup
               D7 G
If I stay true to the narrow trail

                        C G
I once was lured down a deep dark canyon
     C G Dm
By a whiskey bottle and a harlot's smile
         G C G
I didn't wake up till I reached rock bottom
    C G D7 G
The climb to the top was the longest mile

                                C G
Someday I'll ride through those wide green pastures
      C G Dm
Where truth and kindness and love prevail
                G C G
It's there I'll meet with my old compadres
    C G D7 G
Who like me have stayed to the narrow trail

Repeat #2 x2

    C G D7 G
I'm stickin' to the narrow trail
