Intro
C

[Verso 1]

  C Am
I sit with my ear to the glass and the glass to the door
                                             Em
it’s the door to the room where the music is playing
       G
“Don’t go, don’t leave me now, now, now, now.”
C
Sometimes the door would be open enough
        Am Em
and I’d sit on the step and I’d listen to what they were slurring.
       G
It was something ‘bout a factory wall.

[Refrão]

  F C G
I grew up on Liam and Davy and Mike and on Glen and on Shane and on Paul
         F G Em Am
But I’ve never been to Dublin before,
     F G C
I’ve never been to Dublin before.

[Verso 2]

    C
The days I liked most were the trips to the coast with the
Am Em
top down, the tape in, the sound up and singing along
 G
“Sing a song, a powerful song”
    C
The long trip to Greenbelt in your Renault 18
          Am Em
felt much shorter with Fisherman’s Blue and This is the Sea.
       G
“Don’t bang the drum, don’t bang the drum”

[Refrão]

  F C G
I grew up on Liam and Davy and Mike and on Glen and on Shane and on Paul
         F G Em Am
But I’ve never been to Dublin before,
     F G C
I’ve never been to Dublin before.
         F G
And I’ll get all my tax sent, I’ll sing with an accent
     E F
with which I had never been born
                               G
And just for the craic, make a hole in my scratchplate
   E F
to fit in a little bit more
                       C Am
But I’ve never been to Dublin before,
     F G C
I’ve never been to Dublin before.

[Verso 3]

  C Am
I sit with my ear to the glass and the glass to the door
                                             Em
it’s the door to the room where the music is playing
  G
“44 beautiful dancers”
    C Am
Now I put my ear to the plug and the plug to the jack and the
                                     Em
jack to the phone where I hear you again,
   G
“I see your heart and raise you mine”

[Refrão]

  F C G
I grew up on Liam and Davy and Mike and on Glen and on Shane and on Paul
          F
I’ll wear clothes like my dad had and I’ll tune down to DADGAD
         C G
And I’ll play till my fingers are raw
         F
And I’ll stand on the street and I’ll sing ‘til I’m beat
         C G
And I’ll play all my songs in 3/4
         F G C Am
But I’ve never been to Dublin before,
     F G C
I’ve never been to Dublin before.
