Because He Loved Me First

[Verso 1]

       Em D/F# G C
Oh the mercy of a holy God,
C D G
to give His only Son
          Em D/F# G C
Who would bear the shame and consequence
C D G
for wrongs that I have done.
    D Em C
Courageous Lamb who sought me out
                   D
and found me at my worst,
      Em D/F# G C
Now I know I only love my Lord
  C D G
because He loved me first.

[Verso 2]

     Em D/F# G C
I am sure of this about myself,
C D G
there's nothing good in me
        Em D/F# G C
All His ways I know I never trust,
C D G
or His kingdom seek
    D Em C
But by His grace there is within my
                  D
heart a righteous thirst
       Em D/F# G C
And it ever will be satisfied
  C D G
because He loved me first.

[Refrão]

       D C
Oh the love that bled to pay my ransom,
       D C
Oh the love that death could not defeat,
       D Em C
Who am I so poor and undeserving?
     C D
I am His because he paid for me!

[Verso 3]

        Em D/F# G C
The temptations of this fading world
      C D G
would lure my heart away
         Em D/F# G C
For they whisper lies to make me doubt
     C D G
that he alone can save
    D Em C
But Christ supremely takes the place
     C D
that He alone deserves
      Em D/F# G C
Now I live the life that's life indeed
  C D G
because He loved me first.

[Refrão]

       D C
Oh the love that bled to pay my ransom,
       D C
Oh the love that death could not defeat,
       D Em C
Who am I so poor and undeserving?
     C D
I am His because He paid for me!

[Refrão]

       D C
Oh the love that bled to pay my ransom,
       D C
Oh the love that death could not defeat,
       D Em C
Who am I so poor and undeserving?
     C D
I am His because he paid for me!

[Verso 4]

       Em D/F# G C
When I shed this mortal frame of dust
    C D G
and stand before his throne
      Em D/F# G C
To no longer peer through murky glass
    C D G
But know as I am known
   D Em C
My eyes will finally clearly see
                      D
my God's transcendent work
         Em D/F# G C
And I'll love Him best and most and last,
  C D G
because He loved me first.

       Em D/F# G C
I will love Him best and Most and Last
  C D G
because He loved me first.
